The former interim director of the Meigs County finance office has been charged with stealing more than $24,000 from the county.
Connie Allen, 66, turned herself in and was arrested Friday after her indictment on one count of theft over $10,000 and one count of official misconduct, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The TBI said its investigation began in November at the request of Russell Johnson, attorney general for the 9th Judicial District.
TBI worked with the Tennessee comptroller's office after an audit of the county finance department uncovered an irregularity, the release stated.
Agents discovered that between February 2009 and November 2013, Allen received unauthorized compensation totaling more than $24,500 while she worked for the county as a bookkeeper and then interim finance director.
She left that position in November 2013.
