Bradley crime stats beat state average, sheriff says

The Bradley County Sheriff's Office is citing new state figures showing Bradley ranks 9th among Tennessee's 95 counties for solving burglaries.

The figures come from the annual Crime in Tennessee report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, sheriff's spokesman Ed Ramsey said in a news release.

While the state average stands at 12 percent, Bradley County stands at 25 percent for burglaries solved. Bradley County is the only southeastern Tennessee Law Enforcement agency in the Top Ten.

The TBI also reported offenses, such as murder, assault, DUI, rape and drug possession as well as the burglary charges, demonstrated a clearance rate for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office of 55 precent.

East Tennessee's overall clearance rate of all offenses stood at 43 percent, while the state of Tennessee, with all 95 counties, including Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis and other large and small areas, showed a rate of 39 percent of all cases solved.

"I'm so proud of our hard working employees and ranking number 9 in the state is a great achievement for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office. Being in the top 10 in the state is an honor and is a powerful message to thieves and burglars," Sheriff Eric Watson said in the release.
