Lt. Steve Tyson and Officer Jeff Griggs will remain with the Cleveland Police Department, despite being found in violation of department policy.

Police Spokeswoman Evie West said in a written statement this morning that both men were disciplined Wednesday in response to an internal affairs investigation coordinated by the Tenth Judicial District Attorney's office.

Griggs violated the "truthfulness" policy, which is also a violation of "prohibited behaviors," "disobeying orders" and "compliance with direct order of superior or internal investigation officer," according to West. Griggs was demoted from a crime scene technician and reassigned to the patrol division.

Tyson violated the "failure to report violations" policy, and received a written reprimand and will be reassigned from the criminal investigation division to the patrol division, where he will remain at Lt., West said.

This decision follows Cleveland's ex-Police Chief Dennis Maddux submitting his resignation letter, announcing his early retirement, before disciplinary action could be taken against him.

The internal affairs investigation that looked into all three men was conducted after an incident in February, when Griggs found his wife, Cindy, in a car with Maddux. At first, Cindy and Maddux both denied the affair, but eventually admitted that they had been having sexual relations for months.

Griggs was arrested twice following this incident -- once on his wife's allegation of domestic violence, and again when he went to the couple's house to retrieve cloths despite a protective order. Both of those charges have been dropped.

Tyson failed to report Griggs arrest to his superior, thus violating police policy.
