MACON, Ga. - A Macon Regional Crimestoppers employee has been accused of stealing nearly $1,800 in reward money that had been set aside for tipsters who assist investigators.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office released a statement saying 40-year-old Helen Jones of Macon has been arrested and charged with four counts of fiduciary theft.

Investigators say Jones and an accomplice ran a scheme whereby Jones would submit fraudulent paperwork so that the accomplice would receive reward money.

The Sheriff's Office says it expects to charge the accomplice once it has gathered enough evidence to do so.

Crimestoppers Chairman Warren Selby Jr. says he recommended an investigation after noticing inconsistencies with invoices.
