KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Comcast will begin offering its extremely fast 2-gigabit-per-second Internet service to some Knoxville homes next month.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Comcast's Gigabit Pro will be available to 190,000 residents within proximity of Comcast's fiber network in Knox, Anderson and Roane counties next month.

For customers, this means nearly instantaneous downloads, such as downloading a high-definition, two-hour movie in 20 seconds.

Pricing for equipment installation and service is expected to be announced within the next few days.

Doug Guthrie, senior vice president of Comcast Cable's South Region, says the company will also be announcing additional speeds this year.

Comcast plans to roll out the 2-gigabit service nationwide by the end of this year.

It already has launched the connection in Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Florida and California.
