The Chattanooga City Council has approved $719,000 in grant funds to three agencies to build affordable rental housing in the Scenic City.

Council members just passed a resolution to award federal housing grants to the following:

* Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise, up to $443,500

* Tower Construction Company, up to $160,000

* Anand-Martin, up to $50,000

* Otis Rumph, Sr., up to $49,500

* Mark Scott, up to $16,500

The grant funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which provides money to states and municipalities to fund housing projects.

The resolution passed the council unanimously.

City Spokeswoman Lacie Stone said the grants were direct federal funding, the city was just acting as a pass-through. There is no local match for the money.
