A train hit an unoccupied car Monday night after it stalled on the railroad crossing at Bill Jones Road and Apison Pike.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office received a call around7:49 p.m. that a white Ford Crown Victoria had run off the road and was stuck on the railroad crossing.

The driver was helped out of her car by a passerby.

Deputies and Emergency Services immediately notified the railroad about the incident. But before the message could be relayed, a train hit the car at 7:59 p.m.

The wreck damaged the car extensively, but no one was injured.

The train carried only coal and did not carry hazardous materials, according to a Hamilton County Sheriffs's Office news release.

The track line in that area will be closed while authorities check the track and remove debris.
