Red Bank police make arrest in stabbing, burglary case

Red Bank police have arrested a suspect they said stabbed a man and tried to burglarize his house Friday.

Deovany Perez, 22, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and especially aggravated burglary. He was transported to the Hamilton County Jail on Tuesday after spending the previous four days in a local hospital, according to a release from the Red Bank Police Department. As of Tuesday, he was not registered in the jail's system.

At 10 p.m. Friday, Red Bank police responded to a call of stabbing at 135 Hendricks Blvd. After police investigated, they discovered the incident actually took place at 110 Hendricks Blvd.

Perez allegedly broke out the front window of the residence of 110 Hendricks Blvd., where he encountered Marlon Mejia-Mendoza and began stabbing him, the release said. Another resident in the house heard the fight, entered the room, and began defending Mejia-Mendoza.

During the fight, Perez was disarmed and was subsequently stabbed with his own knife, the release said. He fled the scene to 135 Hendricks Blvd., where he called for help.

Mejia-Mendoza and Perez were transported to a local hospital for treatment. When Perez was released from the hospital at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, he was taken into custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

Perez's bond was set at $125,000 for the attempted murder charge and $50,000 for the aggravated burglary charge.
