Desmond Benson, the 34-year old man who was shot just after 2 a.m. at Cherryton Drive, is still in critical condition, said David Roddy, Chattanooga Police chief of staff.

Benson is the third person critically wounded or killed this week in Chattanooga from shootings, after Monica McMillon was killed in her home Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting and Darrel Jones was found lying dead on Central Avenue Thursday afternoon from multiple gun shot wounds.

"We know, for a fact, there are witnesses to some of these crimes," Roddy said in a press conference Friday afternoon. "We know members of our community either have information that will help us or actually witnessed the crimes themselves."

Roddy implored people who know any information to come forward and talk to police.

Jones was the 29th homicide of 2015. That has already surpassed the total number of homicides Chattanooga had in 2014, when there were 27 homicides.
