Shooting reported on O'Rear Street in Chattanooga

Chattanooga police said the person shot on O'Rear Street just after 9 p.m. tonight did not have life-threatening wounds.

Police are still on the scene trying to sort out what happened. Lieutenant Roger Gibbens said they hadn't yet found a crime scene at the reported location, 2507 O'Rear St., but the victim was shot in his or her car.

Next of kin has not been notified yet, so no victim information has been released.

Police were using flashlights searching the ground on the yard near where they had taped off the intersection.

"We can't find a crime scene," Gibbens said. "So we're unclear as to exactly where the gun shots came from, or whether or not this victim was the intended target."

Neighbors believe the victim was in a vehicle with a child. One neighbor heard eight or nine gunshots. The child got into an ambulance but did not appear to be wounded.

"Unless we find a witness who tells us exactly where the people were standing, or the person was standing, who was firing a weapon, we have no idea," Gibbens said. "(Police) Crime Scene can figure it out after a while, but we can only kind of conjecture."
