A unknown white male threatened to detonate a bomb if he wasn't given thousands of dollars in controlled substances, the Collegedale Police said Monday.

Collegedale police are searching for a man they say robbed a Rite Aid and threatened to detonate a bomb this afternoon.

Witnesses said the suspect entered the Rite Aid on Apison Pike shortly after 3 p.m. today, according to a news release from the Collegedale Police Department. They told police he was initially asking about back braces, but returned with a folder that contained a ransom note. The suspect's note said employees were to give him high levels of controlled substances or he would detonate a bomb inside his bag.

He left the store with approximately $3,500 worth of Oxycontin and Oxycodone, as well as $165 in cash, the news release said.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, stocky build, hazel eyes and short black beard. He was seen wearing a black ski cap and carrying a black bag.

Detectives are asking the public to watch the surveillance videos, take note of the suspect's unique walk, and especially when he smiles toward the camera.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Collegedale Police Department at 423-396-3133.
