A fatal crash occurred Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Shugart Road and Highway 41, according to a Dalton Police Department news release.
Harry Whitfield, 68, of Calhoun was driving with his wife, Linda, 67, westbound on Highway 41 toward the interstate when his Chevy Blazer apparently veered into the turning lane at a high speed and rear-ended a stopped dump truck.
Whitfield, his wife and the driver of the dump truck, Justin Elrod of Tunnel Hill, were transported to Hamilton Medical Center. Linda Whitfield later died from injuries received in the crash.
Charges have not been filed in this case as the investigation into the crash is continuing. At this time it's unclear what caused the crash.
