Funeral arrangements have been set for 16-year-old Baylor School student Sumner Smith who died Monday after an apparent cardiac event during swim practice at the Baylor pool.

Students on Wednesday gathered at Coolidge Park after school on Tuesday to remember Smith.

A memorial service will be held in the Baylor School Alumni Chapel on Saturday at 1. p.m., and streamed live on the Baylor website. A reception will follow at the Guerry Dining Hall.

There will be two visitations, the first on Thursday from 2-7 p.m. at Robin Smith's home and the second on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Jerry Smith's home.

A Sumner Smith Memorial Award has been started at Baylor School (171 Baylor School Road, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37405). Donations to the fund are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

"Although his life in years was too short, his presence among all who knew him was profound and will live forever in our hearts," Sumner's obituary reads.

Sumner Smith attended St. Peter's Episcopal School and Normal Park School before enrolling at Baylor. He was a lifeguard at Stuart Heights Pool and a member of Baylor's state championship swim teams in 2014 and 2015.
