STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- DeKalb County police say a woman is expected to survive after being shot by another motorist as both vehicles traveled on a highway outside Atlanta.

Authorities tell local media that a man fired several shots at 44-year-old Angelina Christiano while the two vehicles were on U.S. Highway 78 in Stone Mountain on Monday afternoon.

DeKalb County police Major S.R. Fore says the victim was taken to the hospital, where she was in serious condition.

Police say the suspect's vehicle, a newer model Ford Mustang, pulled up very close behind her. Christiano motioned for the suspect's car to go around her but instead the man opened fire, shooting Christiano in the upper back.

No witnesses had reported a tag number, but Fore says police are hopeful someone may have seen the car involved.
