An area man has been charged with attempted murder of Chattanooga police officers.

While patrolling the 800 block of North Holtzclaw Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, an officer encountered a black Chevy Traverse, which swerved at the officer. The Traverse did not make contact, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, 31-year-old Jeffrey Frederique, allegedly refused to yield and fled the area. During the pursuit, police said Frederique fired a gun from his car at officers.

The suspect crashed his car on the 3200 block of New York Avenue, fled on foot, and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital with broken ribs, according to the news release.

Frederique is charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest, among other charges.
