A man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he shot another man Monday night on Grace Avenue, according to an affidavit of the arrest.

Darrell Andrea Fearn, 41, was also charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and child abuse. The victim, Deed Carroll, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

At 7:48 p.m. Monday, Chattanooga police responded to a call of shots fired at a home on Grace Avenue. When the officer arrived on scene, he saw Fearn standing over Carroll and holding a gun to him, according to the report.

The officer ordered Fearn to drop the weapon. But instead, Fearn handed the weapon to his son, a minor, who began to run off with the gun, the report said.

The officer ordered the son to drop the weapon, which was a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson, the report said. The son threw it six or seven feet to the side and it was retrieved by police.

The altercation allegedly started when Carroll went to Fearn's residence to talk with him because he believed Fearn disrespected his wife, Carroll told police at Erlanger hospital. The report said Fearn and the victim's wife have a child together.

As Carroll approached the front door, he heard Fearn cock his gun. The two began talking, which led to a verbal altercation, the report said. Carroll picked up a large rock, but put it down, he told police.

Fearn then shot Carroll multiple times, the report said. Carroll began to run away and Fearn chased him, still shooting.

Fearn admitted the shooting to police and said he "had nothing to hide," the report said. Many of the details Fearn told police were similar to Carroll's version of the incident.

"Mr. Fearn reported all his children were outside and the victim became disrespectful," the report said. "Mr. Fearn reported he shot the victim when he made the statement that he could have shot him anytime in the past."

Fearn also admitted to chasing Carroll and shooting at him, the report said.

Fearn is being held at the Hamilton County Jail on $197,500 bond, according to the affidavit, and his next court date is scheduled for Sept. 8.
