Residents uninjured in fire, two firefighters treated for heat exhaustion

The two residents of 1737 Harbor Valley Road were able to get out of the house without any injuries when a fire engulfed their home Tuesday night, said Hamilton County Emergency Services Spokesperson Amy Maxwell.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital and treated for heat exhaustion, but are expected to be fine, Maxwell said.

The husband and wife had three dogs. Two of the dogs escaped, but they could not find the other one. Later, firefighters found the other dog dead. Two birds the couple had also died.

The Dallas Bay fire department responded to a call of a fire at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The flames were coming out of the back of the house.

The couple was in the back bedroom of the house when they heard an explosion. They then discovered the sun room was engulfed in flames.

In total, three fire departments were called to extinguish the flames. The house is not a total loss, Maxwell said, and damages are estimated at $75,000. The couple did have insurance.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
