A man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion and assault that occurred in Whitfield County earlier this week, according to a news release from Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood.
Mr. and Mrs. Knick of Robert Fuller Road in Tunnel Hill were awakened Wednesday about 2:30 a.m. by a loud sound in their residence. Mr. Knick went to investigate to determine what the noise was and discovered a man in his residence. Knick confronted the man and an altercation ensued. During the altercation the suspect struck Knick in the face with a metal type object, believed to possibly be a flashlight. The suspect was able to get free and fled from the residence.
The Sheriff's Office responded to the residence and searched the surrounding area with negative results. Knick suffered an injury to his face and a broken wrist during the scuffle. He was treated and released from the hospital. Officers determined a forced entry had been made into the residence through a basement door.
Investigators received information of a possible suspect and were later able to obtain evidence that the subject, Adrian Chronister, was the perpetrator. Arrest warrants were issued for Chronister and he was located and taken into custody Thursday afternoon.
Chronister, 25, of Tunnel Hill, is being held in the Whitfield County Jail without bond on charges of burglary and aggravated assault. The Knick family did not know Chronister. Investigators believe Chronister entered the residence with the intent to commit a theft but was interrupted by the homeowner. Investigators believe Chronister may be responsible for other burglaries in the area.
