A Hamilton County deputy has been arrested and charged with assaulting a female inmate, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Authorities say corrections officer Daniel Hendrix assaulted Leslie M. Hayes, who was being transported to Silverdale Detention Center from the Hamilton County Jail. The incident allegedly happened around 9 p.m. Aug. 19 at Silverdale, the release stated.

Officials say Hayes was combative at the time.

Hendrix has been released on bond. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending an internal investigation, the release said.
