Walker County Deputies fatally shot a domestic violence suspect who refused to to drop his rifle Sunday night.

Because Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson was out of town, Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk briefed media along with Joe Montgomery Special agent in change of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Calhoun office.

Sisk said the call came in about 8:30 p.m. from a home at 25 Cochran Drive reporting a domestic assault.

The woman fled the house, and deputies approached, looking through a window to see a man loading a rifle in the house.

The man came outside the house carrying the rifle and refused officers orders to put down the weapon.

Sisk said the officers feared for their lives and opened fire, killing the man.

Sisk said no information will be released on the names of the suspect or the woman, who was being checked out at a hospital late Sunday night.

GBI is working on the investigation, and sheriff Steve Wilson is expected to have more information today.
