Collegedale Commissioner Ethan White, a Republican, has announced his candidacy for the Tennessee House District 29 seat.

"I am running for the District 29 seat to bring fresh and innovative ideas to our community and the state Legislature," White said in a statement. "We need to find new ways to prepare students for the work force. Through redefining the education system, we create a more fertile atmosphere for job creators and support individuals in developing their ideas."

The Tennessee House District 29 seat now is held by Republican Mike Carter.

White, who has served the Collegedale city commission since 2014 and describes himself as the youngest elected official in Hamilton County, said he has received "overwhelming encouragement" for his candidacy from residents and organizations within the district as well as across the state.

Job creation and education are major concerns for District 29 voters, he said.

"I'm excited for this new opportunity and am humbled and enthused by the level of support I've received," White said.

Collegedale has experienced "tremendous growth" during his time in office, White said, citing his support for a fiscally conservative budget.

White is a Realtor at RE/MAX Properties and serves on the strategic planning committee of the Tennessee Association of Realtors.

White said he has devoted himself to public service from a young age and is strongly rooted in the Christian faith. He also cites a firm belief in protecting rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment and membership with the National Rifle Association.

White said he is looking forward to a "strong and positive path to victory."
