Hamilton County's Lakeside Academy of Math, Science and Technology and Taylor Elementary in Bradley County are recipients of this year's Leonore Annenberg School Fund for Children.
The grant is distributed through the Public Education Foundation, and Lakeside will receive $49,442 to create a STEM lab and enable students hands-on learning opportunities. The grant will also purchase books for the library and classrooms.
PEF collaborated with the Bradley County Public Education Foundation to distribute $49,940 to Taylor Elementary. This money will provide laptops for all fourth and fifth grade students, including mobile hotspots for at-home.
"Leonore Annenberg was committed to improving the lives of children, particularly those who, with support, will becomes leaders of the next generation," said PEF president Dan Challener in a written statement. "These grants certainly underscore the heart of her mission to provide students resources to help them shine brightly."
This is the seventh year PEF has partnered with the Leonore Annenberg School Fund for Children, and nearly $1 million has been distributed to a dozen Chattanooga area elementary schools, according to a press release from PEF.
The Leonore Annenberg School Fund for Children is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, and provides educational resources of immediate and direct value to schools serving children with great need.
