The Grant Starrett for Congress campaign on Friday said it will report raising more than $1.23 million to date, with $908,000 cash on hand.

Campaign manager Tommy Schultz said in a news release the campaign has raised three times as much cash from within the district than incumbent Scott DesJarlais.

The two are competing for the Republican nomination in the Aug. 7 primary.

"In just the last quarter, Grant and our team have knocked on tens of thousands of doors across the district, talking to voters one-on-one about Scott DesJarlais' record," Schultz said. "[It's] no surprise then that we have outraised DesJarlais by more than 3:1 among grassroots dollars given. And with an overall 3:1 cash advantage that matches that grassroots support, we're going to continue to powerfully make our case in the home stretch."

He said Starrett has raised $1,231,143 compared to DesJarlais' $484,946.

That includes $42,465 in what the campaign calls "grassroots" dollars, or money raised within the district, compared to DesJarlais' $13,440. And Schultz said Starrett raised $313,296 in the first quarter of 2016 compared to $137,075 for the incumbent.

The challenger had $908,702 cash on hand, compared with DesJarlais' $345,979.
