A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in an early morning attack near Wilcox Boulevard today, and police have arrested a 22-year-old suspect in the slaying.

Cornelius Douglas was killed in the attack, which happened at 1419 Carousel Road at about 1 a.m.

Responding officers found another man who'd been shot, Jermichael Tillery, about a block away from the crime scene. He was initially taken to the hospital for treatment and was later arrested and charged with criminal homicide and possession of a firearm, according to police.

Police have not said whether Douglas' death is connected to an ongoing gang dispute that set Chattanooga on edge last week.

The city saw 12 shootings in seven days. A 17-year-old was killed and 12 other people were wounded, including two women who were pregnant. At least seven of the shootings were motivated by an ongoing gang dispute, police have said.

Douglas is the 12th person to be killed in Chattanooga so far this year. At this point last year, the city had seen eight homicides. There were 30 homicides in all of 2015.
