Police are on the lookout for a male suspect and a stolen truck after a car sale gone sour left a Whitfield woman in the hospital with multiple stab wounds to her neck and other areas of her body on Tuesday.

According to a news release from Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood, investigators determined the Espitia family was trying to sell a pick-up truck and had advertised it on Craigslist. A subject contacted them saying he was interested in purchasing the truck and came to the home on Serena Way off Tilton Road at 1:30 p.m.

Mayra Espitia, the victim, was the only one home.

The subject reportedly arrived with a white female in a dark-colored passenger car and the female stayed in the car while he came into the house and spoke with Espitia about the truck.

When the two of them started walking back outside to look at the truck, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and started stabbing and cutting the victim before grabbing the keys and fleeing the scene in the truck. The female in the car also left.

Authorities are now searching for the truck, a white 2001 GMC Sonoma pick-up which did not have tags at the time it was taken, and the suspect who is described as a white man in his mid to late 40s. The investigation is ongoing.
