A 64-year-old Sylvania, Ala., man is jailed and a DeKalb County teen is recovering from a gunshot wound he got while reportedly toilet papering a neighbor's yard.
Ronnie Lee Neeley is charged with two counts of menacing and one count each of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and second-degree assault, DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said in a statement.
"All charges stem from an incident in Sylvania on Saturday, April 23, 2016, where a 16-year-old male juvenile was shot in the hip," Harris said. The boy was transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga by DeKalb Ambulance Service. He was treated and released, the sheriff said.
Harris said the teen was with a group of juveniles that were trying to roll a neighbor's yard with toilet paper. The juvenile was in a vehicle when he was shot, he said.
"This is a traumatic incident that could have been tragic had the bullet taken a different path," Harris said. "We are very thankful that the child did not suffer any more injury than he did."
