Bradley inmate was fighting before emergency call

A Bradley County jail inmate was injured in a fight with another prisoner before he became unresponsive and was rushed to Erlanger on Thursday.

Josh DeVine, spokesman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said the injured man was Billy Joe Rogers, 39.

It wasn't immediately known why Rogers was in the jail. The other inmate's name wasn't released.

Here is the statement from DeVine:

"At the request of 10th District Attorney General Stephen Crump, TBI Agents continue to investigate the circumstances of an altercation between two inmates at the Bradley County Jail on Thursday afternoon, which resulted in injuries to one of them, Billy Joe Rogers (DOB 8-23-76), requiring hospitalization at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. The investigation is active and ongoing. In turn, we will submit findings to the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration."
