Child hospitalized after being injured in drive-by shooting on Water Street

A child was shot Wednesday night at the 200 block of Water Street in Chattanooga, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

Police received a report that a young child suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg was brought by personal vehicle to a local hospital.

Officers talked to witnesses at the hospital and at the scene of the incident who said they were standing outside about 10 p.m. when a person in an unknown vehicle shot at them.

Investigators are following all actionable leads and police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.

This is the second shooting on Water Street in less than a week. Marquise Jackson, 24, was shot multiple times early Sunday morning and died from his injuries.

Also, a 25-year-old man and two teenagers were shot near Dodson Avenue in Chattanooga early Wednesday morning. Police believe those two incidents are related.
