ATLANTA - Police say a couple is facing charges in connection to the death of an 8-month-old girl who was beaten with a belt by the boyfriend in Atlanta.
Brookhaven police officer Carlos Nino says Kamonie Love Whitehead died around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston. Police are waiting on the autopsy results next week before deciding to upgrade the charges against the girl's mother Shavone Whitehead and her boyfriend Edward F. Wilson.
Both are charged with cruelty to children and aggravated battery. Court records show the girl had injuries to her legs, buttocks, chin and arms along with multiple fractures and a possible skull fracture.
WSB-TV reports a legal document shows the mother admitting to using a belt on occasion to punish the child.
