A fire displaced a family of three early this morning in Chattanooga, according to a Chattanooga Dire Department news release.

A fire raced through the home of a mother and her two adult sons at the 500 block of W. 45th Street. One of her sons woke up shortly before 4 a.m. and discovered the house was on fire. He told firefighters that he woke up his brother and both got out of the house uninjured. They did not have their phones with them, so they went to a neighbor's house, woke up the residents and called 911.

By the time Chattanooga firefighters received the alarm and arrived on the scene, most of the house was on fire and flames were shooting out the eves in the attic. Battalion Chief Lesley Morgan said it took firefighters from five fire companies about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Morgan said the house was considered a total loss, with damages estimated at $68.000. The boy's mother was away at work at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee responded to the scene to provide assistance to the fire victims. Chattanooga police and Hamilton County Emergency Services also provided assistance at the scene.
