Man arrested for alleged shooting, robbery in Chattanooga

One man is in custody in connection to a shooting and robbery in the 1300 block of East 36th Street in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Police, with the help of K9 "Ducco," arrested Gareak Dewayne Lopopolo, 19, and charged him for the shooting and robbery of Chase Gibson, 22, according to a press release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Gibson was shot once and treated at a local hospital and is expected to live, according to the release.

Lopopolo tried to escape when police found him at the Kings Lodge motel, but an officer, with the help of his dog, arrested the suspect, according to the release.

Lopopolo was treated at Erlanger for minor injuries and was then taken to the Hamilton County Jail, according to the release.

He was charged with especially aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
