Devastating Gatlinburg fires

Contract bridge might not have the glitz and drama of a high-rollers' poker tournament.

But Knoxville area members of the American Contract Bridge League will meet Dolly Parton in Nashville as she films her TV special "Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund," to be aired at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. The bridge players have raised more than $40,000 for the victims of last week's deadly wildfires in Gatlinburg and will continue to raise money Sunday.

The league's Unit 165 has 998 members in Knoxville, Crossville, Maryville, Tellico, Oak Ridge, Kingsport, Johnson City and Morristown, plus some in Abingdon, Va. Their president is retired Knoxville attorney Bill Waters.
