A 25-year-old Chattanooga woman is accused of stabbing her boyfriend in the head and then trying to set his room on fire Tuesday, according to police records.

Lureya Drew is charged with aggravated arson and aggravated assault in connection with the incident, which happened just before 11 a.m. at a home on Dodson Avenue.

Police arrived to find Edward Thorton, 34, bleeding from a puncture wound in his head. His room was still filled with smoke and officers found a half-burned blanket inside the room.

Thorton told police Drew stabbed him with an unknown object and then tried to burn down his room before fleeing out a back door, records show. The report does not give a motive for the attack.

Officers found Drew less than a half-mile away on Derby Street, arrested her and brought her back to the home, where officers said she spat and cursed at them, then tried to kick out the window of a patrol car.

Tuesday's incident is the second time Drew has been charged with setting fire to Thorton's property. On Aug. 26, a neighbor told investigators that Drew brought all of Thorton's clothes out of the house and piled them up around his bike, then set fire to the pile.

The neighbor said Drew was upset because Thorton had not come home and was holding a knife during the incident, records show. Drew left the scene after setting the fire, even though her child was inside the house. The Chattanooga Fire Department was called to put out the fire, which was about 10 feet from the house, records show.

She was charged with setting fire to personal property and released on a $7,500 bond.
