Early morning blaze damages McDonald's in Ooltewah

Tri-Community Fire Department, along with the Chattanooga Fire Department, responded to a reported blaze about 5 a.m. today at the Lee Highway McDonald's in Ooltewah, according to a news release.

Tri-Community units met Collegedale police officers at the site who said the fire was contained in the fryer exhaust system. A Collegedale officer, who is also a Tri-Community firefighter, used a waste fire extinguisher to contain the fire prior to arrival of firefighters.

Firefighters went to the roof and inside the restaurant and contained the blaze to the exhaust system of the fryer.

The restaurant will remain closed until repairs can be made to the exhaust system and inspected by the Chattanooga Fire Marshal's Office.

Damages were estimated at $10,000. No injuries were reported.

Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga police also provided assistance on the scene.
