Update: Juvenile male charged with aggravated assault in shooting of 16-year-old boy in East Ridge

A white, juvenile male has been charged with aggravated assault in connection to the shooting of a 16-year-old boy that happened early this afternoon.

The East Ridge Police Department originally responded to the 4200 block of Bennett road at 12:38 today on a call about a juvenile who was shot in the head.

Within five minutes of arrival, responders stabilized him for transport to Erlanger, according to police captain Tim Mullinax.

Mullinax also said the weapon used was believed to be a .380 caliber handgun.

As of 3:30 p.m., the victim's condition and the extent of his injuries were unknown.

A 15-years-old boy who was also at the scene and was transported to the East Ridge police department for an interview.

Neighbors said that they didn't know details about what happened, but did say that they came out of their homes to see emergency vehicles lining the road.

One man who asked to remain anonymous said, "It looked like every cop in East Ridge was here."

"It's the way this new generation is," he said. "Nowadays you see more and more young people involved in violence and they're children, basically."
