Registration closing for dementia conference in Dalton

The registration deadline is Tuesday for a discussion on dementia scheduled for Friday in Dalton, Ga.

Three experts will speak at the event hosted by elder law attorney David L. McGuffey, according to a news release.

Dr. Peter Rabins, director of the division of geriatric psychology at Johns Hopkins University, will offer perspectives on the challenges and joys of caregiving and aspects of surrogate decision-making.

Viki Kind, author of "The Caregiver's Path to Compassionate Decision Making," will focus on evaluating risk, danger and safety when creating a care plan.

A legal expert will speak regarding the continuum of capacity and legal issues associated with decision-making when a loved one has diminished capacity, the release stated.

Admission is $35 for professionals, which includes lunch. Family caregivers and students may attend for $15 each. Professionals will receive certificates of attendance and social workers will be credited for six hours of CEUs.
