As bitterly cold Thursday dawns, many schools closed and delayed

Here's the forecast for the week.

Snow, ice and frigid weather caused schools and agencies to close and delay Wednesday across the Chattanooga area and more closings and delays have been announced for Thursday.

According to Paul Barys, chief meteorologist for WRCB-TV, the bitterly cold air should begin to dissipate over the next few days, but the low temperatures Wednesday night and into Thursday morning will be in the mid 20s. Clouds are also expected to increase along with a small chance for a flurry or two. Thursday should be mostly sunny as the highs climb into the mid 40s.

THURSDAY CLOSINGS AND DELAYS

Tennessee

  • Bledsoe County Schools will be closed
  • Dayton City Schools will be delayed two hours
  • Grundy County Schools will be closed
  • Marion County Schools will be closed
  • Polk County Schools will be closed
  • Rhea County Schools will be closed
  • Sequatchie County Schools will be closed

Georgia

  • Fannin County Schools will be delayed two hours
  • Union County Schools will be delayed two hours
  • Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens county health departments will be delayed two hours
