MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A Cobb County man has been sentenced to five years in prison for killing a dog by throwing it over a balcony.

The Cobb District Attorney's office announced Thursday that 28-year-old Lee Bishop Bullock of Kennesaw pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Authorities say Bullock killed the dog in June, when he was living with the dog's owner.

Prosecutor Sherwin Figueroa says Bullock was already on felony probation when he slammed the animal's head into a wall and threw it off a second-floor balcony.

Bullock's lawyer told the court that Bullock was addicted to prescription drugs at the time.

Sentencing Bullock to five years in prison and five years of probation, Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard said the crime was an issue of character, not just drugs.
