The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department investigated threats of a shooting at Ooltewah High School, but said Saturday morning there are no credible threats.

"At this time, we do not have any credible threats that would lead us to believe any students are in danger," said Matt Lea, spokesman for the Sheriff's Department.

According to an email Ooltewah High School Principal Jim Jarvis sent to parents and students Friday night, a threat was made against the school for this upcoming Tuesday.

"I will shoot up the school," someone wrote.

Jarvis said in the email that the school was being proactive in addressing the threat.

"We take these threats seriously and anyone involved with this type of activity will be punished to the fullest extent of the law," Jarvis wrote in the email.

Jarvis and Lea said there will be additional officers on duty Tuesday in an effort to enhance safety.

Kyle Miller, spokesman for the Chattanooga Police Department, said police are aware of the threat, but have not been asked to provide additional officers at the school.

A parent of a junior at Ooltewah High School said she is concerned for her daughter's safety and will not be sending her to school that day.

The mom spoke on terms of anonymity, and said during the three years her daughter has been at Ooltewah High School there has never been a threat like this.

"I hope the more people that know about this threat the more measures will be taken to keep everyone safe," the mom said. "I just want them to do everything they can."
