No charges have been filed in a continuing investigation into the December fatal stabbing of a 52-year-old Pikeville, Tenn., man.
Robert "Bobby" Jackett was found stabbed Dec. 21, 2015, at 526 Robert Simmons Road, according to the Bledsoe County Sheriff's Office and the TBI. The home is in a remote area of Southeastern Bledsoe County about five miles west of the town of Graysville in Rhea County.
"The circumstances surrounding his death are still being actively investigated, so we are not able to provide specifics at this stage," Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Niland said in an email.
The stabbing was reported by Jackett's 36-year-old wife, identified by the TBI as Chasity Jackett, who drove to the Bledsoe County Sheriff's Office to notify authorities because she had no phone, 12th Judicial District Attorney General Mike Taylor said.
"The initial report was that it was a domestic altercation where the alleged victim [Bobby Jackett] was apparently assaulting his wife and she allegedly fought back and wound up stabbing him," Taylor said. After deputies got to the scene Taylor asked for help from the TBI and sent Jackett's body to Nashville for autopsy.
Authorities now are continuing to probe Chasity Jackett's account of the incident and have not determined whether criminal charges are warranted, he said.
"We won't be able to come to a definite conclusion until we get the autopsy report and all the lab reports back," Taylor said. He said most interviews have been completed.
When finished, results of the investigation will be turned over to Taylor to decide whether charges will be brought in the case, Niland said.
According to his obituary information on the Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home website, Bobby Jackett was a lifelong Bledsoe County resident and left behind a son, sister, brother and both parents.
