Wintery mix forecast for Wednesday

With temperatures hovering around and below the freezing mark today and tonight, forecasters say the region can expect a wintry mix beginning after midnight tonight and continuing through lunchtime tomorrow.

Accumulations could amount to 1 to 2 inches across the region and in the highest elevations could total 3 or 4 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the area today and tomorrow.

The National Weather Service predicts a high just over freezing of 33 degrees in Chattanooga today, dropping back to a low of 25 overnight tonight. Wintry precipitation will start around 1 a.m.

The Wednesday forecast for the Scenic City calls for a temperatures in the low-20s with snow and sleet before 1 p.m. when the precipitation should change over to rain as temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach 36 degrees. Rain continues Wednesday night with the thermometer staying above the freezing mark the rest of the week.

Temperatures in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama should be similar to the Chattanooga area but with accumulations of snow, ice and sleet of up to an inch or two in Georgia and an inch or less in Alabama.
