Area schools begin to announce Thursday closings, delays

As temperatures dipped below freezing and stayed there, schools in the Chattanooga region began to announce that they would remain closed on Thursday.

Wednesday church services were widely canceled amid concerns that ice on the road in the evening would lead to pileups similar to what happened Wednesday morning, when I-75 was shut down at the Ooltewah exit.

Thursday closings:

* Athens City Schools

* Bledsoe County Schools

* Bradley County Schools

* Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy

* Cleveland City Schools

* Dayton City Schools

* Fannin County Schools

* Grundy County Schools

* Hamilton County Schools

* Marion County Schools

* McMinn County Schools

* Meigs County Schools

* Polk County Schools

* Rhea County Schools

* Richard Hardy School

* Sequatchie County Schools

Thursday delays:

* Brainerd Baptist Academy will open at 9 a.m.

* Chattanooga Christian School will be on a two-hour delay

* Chickamauga City Schools will be on a two-hour delay

* Dade County Schools will be on a two-hour delay

* Orange Grove Center buses will not pick up school-age students but will run on a two-hour delay for adults. Staff will report as normally scheduled.

* Walker County Schools will be on a two-hour delay

*Chattooga County Schools will be on a two-hour delay

*McCallie will open at 10:20 a.m.

*GPS will open at 10:15 a.m.

*Baylor will open at 10 a.m.

*UTC will open at 10 a.m.
