Man wanted on attempted murder charge after wife shot in Chattanooga

James Winnie, 38, is now wanted for attempted first degree murder after he allegedly shot his estranged wife early this afternoon.

A press release from the Chattanooga Police Department said that at 12:36 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of 6th avenue for a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived they found 27-year-old Jessica Winnie suffering from a gunshot wound.

The suspect allegedly drove to the home and started a verbal disorder with the victim and her brother which escalated until he shot the victim.

Her injury was non-life threatening and she was transported to an area hospital by paramedics.

The suspect left the scene before police arrival and warrants have been obtained for his arrest.

He is also wanted for possession of a firearm and felony reckless endangerment.
