Man charged after pickup drags officer during traffic stop in Nashville

NASHVILLE - Police say they've charged a man accused of dragging an officer several feet with his vehicle during a traffic stop in Nashville.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department says in a news release that 54-year-old Danny Troupe was charged with reckless endangerment and evading arrest Monday.

The release says motorcycle officer Danny Johnson was conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 440 when Troupe stopped his pickup truck in a travel lane and began shouting at him. Johnson walked over and told Troupe to move to the side of the road. Troupe refused and pulled away, dragging Johnson about 12 feet before falling.

According to the release, Troupe told officers he was upset about a prior traffic citation.

Johnson was treated for shoulder injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
