Tennessee Highway Patrol was named the best state police agency in the U.S. in the Highway Patrol/State Police agency category consisting of 501-1500 troopers.

THP competed in the largest state agency category and won the award at the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Law Enforcement Challenge, according to a release on the Tennessee state government's official website.

THP presented programs and results of public safety efforts at the challenge. All law enforcement agencies in the U.S. qualified to compete, according to the release. The release did not state how many agencies competed.

It is the only agency to place in the top three in each of the last four years, according to the release.

THP also won in the Technology Special Award category for its predictive analytics program and the Traffic Incident Management Special Award category, according to the release.
