A Cherokee County, N.C., man has been booked on sex charges in a trespass case stemming from an incident on July 19.

Kenneth James Laney, 53 of Marble, N.C., is being held on a $2,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on Aug. 2., Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer said in a statement.

Laney was arrested after deputies responded to a disturbance call at a home in the Marble community. Once at the scene, officers collected information that Laney was a suspect in trespassing at the residence and of the alleged sexual battery of the property owner who lived there, Palmer said.

"Because of the sensitive nature of the crime reported, no further press releases will be made concerning this case," Palmer said.
