CENTERVILLE, Tenn. - Two men have been arrested after authorities say they led officers on a car chase, fired at a Hickman County deputy and then ran into the woods.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that 19-year-old William D. Leidecker and 34-year-old Michael J. Shaffner were both arrested Wednesday on weapons and evading charges.

Authorities say the suspects refused to stop Tuesday night for a Centerville police officer while traveling on state Route 100, prompting the chase by police and the deputy.

The TBI says the suspects then crashed in a wooded area, at which point one of the men shot at the deputy, who fired back.

No one was hit and the suspects fled on foot before later being found.

It's unclear whether they have an attorney.
