Man seriously injured after being hit by train in Cleveland

A man is being treated for serious injuries received when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train this morning in Cleveland, Tenn.

Cleveland Police Department spokeswoman Evie West said authorities got a report around 6:45 a.m. and emergency officials found him shortly after they arrived on the scene at 7:04 a.m.

The incident happened at the crossing on Old Chattanooga Pike, near APD 40, she said.

"He was airlifted to Erlanger with severe injuries," West said. "He was alert and conscious."

There was no information available on his identity or age.

Cleveland authorities are working with investigators from Norfolk Southern, West said.
