Police say a number of people were arrested over the weekend in separate incidents around Chattanooga.

At about 2:36 p.m. Saturday, Officer Ryan Vanderpool responded a report of a suspicious vehicle on North Hickory Street.

While en route, dispatchers reported that a white truck and a black Nissan full of juveniles hanging out of the windows were traveling recklessly down North Hickory, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department. The vehicles matched the description of a reported carjacking that occurred Friday.

Once Vanderpool got in the area, he saw a dark blue Nissan in the 2100 block of Wilson Street with people hanging out of the windows and heading west. He was still several blocks away when he attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but was unable to do so.

After checks of the area, he spotted the Nissan pulling into a driveway in the 2100 block of Laura Street. The car's tag came back as a stolen carjacked vehicle.

Once back-up arrived, all five parties in the vehicle were transported to the police services center for questioning.

According to investigators, three of the juveniles were involved in the original carjacking.

Later Saturday around 6:22 p.m., officers saw a gold Chrysler Sebring with expired registration traveling down Wilson Street.

Police stopped the car, and while speaking to the driver, they smelled marijuana coming from the car.

During a search of the car, police found a pistol under the front passenger seat; a black bag that containing around 50 bags of marijuana individually packaged in sandwich bags; a small container with a brown sticky paste inside and a vaporizer. The brown sticky substance is consistent with butane hash oil, police said. Cash totaling $865 also was found.

Donnell Powell was charged with possession of marijuana for resale, possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and expired registration.

Then around 10:15 p.m, Officer Ryan Lynn responded to a report of a possible narcotics violation at a hotel located at 7015 Shallowford Road.

Upon arrival, the officer smelled marijuana coming through the door and made contact with two individuals. He conducted a field investigation and found more than 4 pounds of marijuana and more than $30,000 cash wrapped up in rubber bands.

Moneesha Evans, 25, and Daryl Cooper, 26, were arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule VI narcotic.

Early Sunday around 12:23 a.m., Officer Trevor Creighton responded to 343 13th Ave. on an alarm call.

Once there, he found a window had been broken on the right hand side of the house. Dispatch attempted to make contact with the homeowners, who stated no one was supposed to be inside the home.

Police made entry inside the residence through the broken window, and while searching the home, found a suspect hiding under the bed in the master bedroom.

Antione Devon Smith, 18, was arrested and charged with burglary and vandalism.
