The Chattanooga police officer who was shot during the July 16 terrorist attack today returned to work at the police department.

Officer Dennis Pedigo was shot in the leg during the attack, when a 24-year-old gunman opened fire on two U.S. military sites in Chattanooga. The gunman shot and killed four U.S. Marines and a U.S. Navy sailor.

Pedigo will remain on "light duty" until medically cleared to return to full duty, according to police.

Pedigo declined to speak with media today, but in December told the Times Free Press he was not afraid when he was shot during the attack.

"I fell down, bullets were hitting around us," he said in December. "When I got hit, I really wasn't worried about it. I knew that the people I was with would help me. That they were going to take care of what was going on. I just knew I was in no man's land and was trying to find a place to get cover."
